Objectives of this course

On completion of this CPD activity, the participant will be able to:

  • Provide an overview of South Africa’s current and planned healthcare system.
  • Discuss the characteristics and benefits of psychiatric day hospitals.
  • Discuss the current evidence regarding occupational therapists’ role and scope of practice in psychiatric day hospital settings.
  • Describe the occupational therapy process typically followed in a psychiatric day hospital.
  • Outline the intervention modes, theoretical approaches, content, guidelines, principles, and formats that need to be considered in developing an occupational therapy programme for a psychiatric day hospital.
