Objectives of this course
On completion of this CPD activity, the participant will be able to:
- Provide an overview of the prevalence, main causes, and recommended management of spinal cord injuries (SCIs) in South Africa.
- Discuss common factors that contribute to the abandonment of wheelchairs.
- Explore the physical, emotional, and social consequences of using an inappropriately prescribed wheelchair.
- Discuss the level of satisfaction with the wheelchairs and the functional mobility of individuals with SCIs who received rehabilitation in South Africa’s private healthcare sector.
- Describe the impact of user involvement in the wheelchair prescription process on the level of satisfaction with the wheelchair and functional mobility of individuals with SCIs who received rehabilitation in South Africa’s private healthcare sector.
- Describe the effect of the type of wheelchair prescribed on the level of satisfaction with the wheelchair and the functional mobility of South Africans with SCIs who were rehabilitated in the private healthcare sector.
